‘Woodn’t’ It Be Nice To Have a Log Home?
Published Feb 16, 2009

Tennessee Log Homes has some versions with log exteriors but traditional interiors.
The log home may have humble beginnings, but Tennessee Log Homes has tapped into a high-end trend that blends rustic and elegant with more than a nod to nature.
“People want to stay in touch with nature but have their luxury,” says Tina Frizzell, the company’s director of business development. “Retiring people want their homes to be a destination, with outdoor living space, an outdoor great room. Our designs trend in that direction, and that is why we are growing.”
The Athens, Tenn.-based company started 35 years ago and remains family-owned. Its Natural Element Homes line is doing well, even with an uncertain economy. Sales grew by 104 percent in 2008, Frizzell says.
Some log and hybrid homes, pre-construction, are packed into containers and shipped to Europe, where the supply of lumber in some countries is limited, she says.
Customers can pick from classic, designer and custom home lines. They can opt for a true log home or a hybrid with a timber exterior and a traditional interior. Or they can target one room – a log-styled “gentleman’s room” is increasingly popular.
