Ambassadors Tell Positive Story of Dalton, Ga.
Published Feb 16, 2009
The “in” crowd is getting larger in Dalton, Ga., thanks to a new program of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority. The “Join! In” campaign invites residents of the community to be trained as Greater Dalton ambassadors, and those who complete the training receive a lapel pin with the words “I’m IN.”
“The purpose of the campaign is to provide opportunities to tell a positive story about Greater Dalton. Businesses, civic leaders and organizations around the community are adopting the campaign and using the available artwork and visuals to get people to ask questions or submit their own positive stories about the community,” says Melanie Suggs, executive director of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority. “By wearing the pin, community members are agreeing to spread the word about Greater Dalton’s key attributes.”
Those key attributes all start with “in” – international, innovative, inspired, inviting, invested.
“The goal is that a continued focus on the positive aspects of the community will impact the way the community sees itself,” Suggs says. “In the end, the campaign helps turn all members of the community into salespeople who believe in their product and are proud of where they live and work. And in economic development, the more salespeople, the better.”
Many clubs, organizations, government entities and businesses are on board with the “Join! In” campaign to brand Greater Dalton. The city of Dalton and Whitfield County proudly display “I’m IN” banners in government meeting rooms, and the Dalton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Downtown Development Authority, and the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce are using the campaign.
“Downtown businesses have new ‘We’re IN’ signs in their windows, and the mayor of Dalton has recorded a radio spot encouraging others to participate,” Suggs says. “The list of people and organizations who are ‘in’ continues to grow.”
