Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Celebrates 75 Years

Take note: The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2008.

The first official season of the Chattanooga Symphony took place in 1933, and the symphony and Chattanooga Opera merged in 1985, becoming the first combined symphonic and opera organization in the United States. Today, it is one of just two such companies.

In 1992, maestro Robert Bernhardt was assigned the artistic leadership role of the Chattanooga group, and he remains the music director and conductor.
