Living and Working in the Southeast

The Southeast Industrial Development region covers a 22-county area in Tennessee, northern Georgia and southwest North Carolina and includes Chattanooga, Tenn., Dalton, Ga., and Murphy, N.C. The region is a major center for all types of manufacturing and includes operations for carpet and flooring manufacturers Shaw Industries and Mohawk Industries, McKee Foods, Roper, Whirlpool and La-Z-Boy. Volkswagen selected Chattanooga as the site for a $1 billion U.S. assembly plant that will open in 2011 and Wacker Chemie plans a $1 billion plant in Bradley County, Tenn., to make raw materials for solar panels. The region's spectacular natural beauty, an array of cultural and arts attractions, endless recreational opportunities, and high-caliber health-care and higher education institutions combine to make it a desirable place to live and work.
